A Beaumont man is indicted in connection with the June death of a 76-year-old man.
Detectives last month received a warrant for the arrest of Melvin Spikes III, 38, charging him with capital murder in the death of Emerson Franklin, 76, of Beaumont.
Franklin's body was found at his home located at 1237 Hillebrandt Rd. on Sunday, June 17, 2012.
According to 12News HD file stories, members of the victim's church made a call to the Sheriff's Office when he did not show up to church. Deputies found the front door kicked in and signs of a struggle at the house.
A Jefferson County grand jury on Thursday handed up a 1-count indictment, charging Spikes with murder.
Spikes is currently held at the Jefferson County Sheriff's Correctional facility. His bond for the murder charge is set at $300,000.
