CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Thursday afternoon was filled with words of encouragement and support to the folks who support the Women's Shelter of South Texas.

Bill Rancic, the first winner of the nationally televised show The Apprentice, was the guest speaker for the Shelter's first Great Expectations fundraiser luncheon at the Solomon P. Ortiz Center.

"Part of taking control of your destiny, and really try to embrace your future, is being able to leave your comfort zone," Rancic said.

More than 350 people attended the event to help support the organization, which helps, counsels and provides shelter to over 2,000 battered and abused women every year.
