A Beaumont firefighter is recovering from heat-related injuries and two homes are damaged after a blaze that started as a car fire and quickly spread.
The fire happened around 10:30 p.m. Saturday in the 5400 block of Landry Lane.
A Beaumont Fire Department spokesperson says a vehicle fire under a carport at 5410 Landry Ln. spread to another vehicle and then to the house. The blaze then spread to a neighboring house.
The people in the second to catch fire alerted the people in the house where the fire started. Everyone from both homes was able to get outside safely.
Investigators say the original vehicle fire appears to be accidental.
The house at 5410 Landry Lane suffered heavy damage from the fire. The neighboring house received what firefighters described as moderate damage.
The American Red Cross was called to help both families.
One firefighter was transported the St. Elizabeth Hospital by Beaumont EMS with a heat related injury. He was expected to be treated and released.
Firefighters were on the scene until 1:15 a.m.
