A family member of a 65-year-old woman seriously injured in a two-vehicle accident on Major Drive, tells 12News HD the woman died from her injuries. She also says the woman's husband is in critical condition at Christus Hospital Saint Elizabeth.
Thru email, Prem Reddy also identified the victims as her aunt and uncle.
Police say the driver of a white Ford Explorer was heading southbound on Major Drive when the vehicle hydroplaned and veered into the northbound side of the road. The SUV struck a Honda Accord head-on.
The Beaumont Police Department Monday morning issued the following statement.
Our Traffic Unit is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Saturday August 11, 2012 at approximately 7:10 pm. The head on collision happened between two vehicles near the intersection of Major Dr. @ Willowbend.
A twenty-year-old Beaumont resident was driving a white Ford Explorer southbound on Major Dr. when, according to witnesses, the vehicle may have hydroplaned due to standing water. The driver lost control, crossed the centerline, and struck a Honda Accord that was heading northbound on Major Dr. The Honda was occupied by a sixty nine year old Beaumont man and a sixty five year old female resident of Beaumont.
The impact caused critical injuries to both occupants of the Honda. Beaumont EMS transported them to St. Elizabeth ER for treatment. Beaumont EMS also transported the driver of the Explorer to St. Elizabeth with minor injuries.
The following day, the female passenger of the Honda died because of her injuries. Officers identified her as Ruth Christopher. The driver of the Honda is still in critical condition at St. Elizabeth Hospital.
