CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
It is back-to-school time for the kids, and many of them will be going back in style thanks to the generosity of the community.
The Second Baptist Church handed out hundreds of backpacks to local students. Kids had a chance to pick out their favorite one. It's something the church does every year for under-privileged kids, who walk away with a lot more than just a backpack.
"We are doing more than a backpack," said Pastor Dana Moore of Second Baptist Church. "It's a backpack filled with school supplies. Not only that, we are meeting with the families that are coming through. That's why it is more than a back pack."
In all, across the city, the churches gave away over 5,000 backpacks.
