Beaumont Police are searching for the person who broke into the Jefferson County Appraisal Building not one, not two, but three nights in a row.
The burglaries happened August 3rd, 4th, and 5th. The person is seen on surveillance tape different items.
In the only picture released by Beaumont police, a person can be seen peeking out the door of the computer room of the Appraisal building.
"The glass breakage alarm should have got them. It didn't. When they came into the hallway the motion detectors apparently caught them and they left the building. I couldn't believe it, it would happen two nights in a row," Chief Appraiser Roland Bieber said.
It didn't, it happened three nights in a row. Bieber says the crook broke windows in the back of the building to enter each night. And only went into the hallway on the third evening.
"The alarm system wasn't up to par," Bieber said.
During the burglaries the thief made off with items like still cameras, desktop computers, cash and laptops used by appraisers out in the field.
Beaumont Police Officer Doug Kibodeaux says criminals can turn the electronics into easy money. The hard part for police, is finding out who would target the appraisal building.
"If somebody is trying to sell you something in the street, let us know. So we can check serial numbers and clear up some of the burglaries," Ofc. Kibodeaux said.
Everything stolen from the building plus repairs totals more than $19,000. And with the addition of a new security system, the cost rises to more than $25,000. Something the appraisal district can't put a price on is the public's personal information. But Bieber says no worries, none of it was lost in the burglaries.
Police believe that it was the same person who burglarized the building each night, each time between 5 p.m. and 6:30 a.m. the next morning. Call police if you have any information on the crimes.
