US Border Patrol agents found yet another dead illegal immigrant in Brooks County, bringing the total body count so far this year in that county up to 66.
The discovery was made in a remote ranch area off of Highway 281, about nine miles south of Falfurrias. The body was found about three quarters of a mile into a ranch property in a sandy area.
The immigrant was a man from Mexico in his mid 30s. Authorities said he died from heat exhaustion.
"Especially in this area, I mean, it's been well over a hundred for quite some time," said Investigator Danny Davila of the Brooks County Sheriff's Office. "Of course, the heat index is even higher, and these undocumented aliens try to get across. They just don't have enough water. They don't have enough food to make the trip."
Last month alone, 25 bodies were found by Brooks County authorities.
