Back to School Shopping Spree for Kids

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Fifty kids will be going back to school in style, thanks to the generosity of others.

CPL Retail Energy have been proud to sponsor the Child Spree Program for the last seven years. The event provides back-to-school clothes to 50 deserving students from all over the Coastal Bend.

On Friday, the shopping spree took place at J.C. Penney in La Palmera Mall. Each child had $100 to spend.

The kids were selected by workers with the Communities in Schools program.

"We got some shirts, pants," said Matthew Hernandez, a Carroll High School senior. "This is important. Lots of kids don't have the opportunity to get stuff for school. This means a lot to us."

"These kids are all smiles," said Jessica Mahaffey of CPL Retail Energy. "Through the Child Spree, they get brand new clothes. It instills confidence in them, and confidence helps kids make smarter decisions in school."

Not only do the kids receive clothing, they also go home with a backpack full of school supplies, courtesy of the good folks at CPL Retail Energy.
