CCISD Teachers Prepare Classrooms for New School Year

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

A new school year is about to begin public school students, and that means local teachers are putting the finishing touches on their classrooms.

Julia Cruz-Aedo is a first-year history teacher at Grant Middle School. On Monday, she spent the day cleaning up her classroom and putting up decorations.

Cruz-Aedo said most of the flair in her classroom must be purchased with her own money, but she doesn't mind spending the money on her students.

"I spent a lot of time at Wal-Mart and Office Depot during Tax Free Weekend," Cruz-Aedo said. "Got a lot of supplies. Lots of posters. Lots of stuff you need to get to make your classroom. It's crazy how much you don't realize it until you have to buy it all."

The 21-year old Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi graduate is excited to stay in her hometown and teach here in the community.

The Corpus Christi Independent School District has approximately 150 new teachers in their district.
