WINONA/SMITH COUNTY (KYTX) - A heartbreaking end to the search for a missing East Texas toddler.

Sheriff's investigators tell us 2 year-old Jake Kimbley was found dead early this morning. The details of his death are still coming into our newsroom.

Jake went missing yesterday afternoon about 1 p.m. Investigators say he was last seen behind his house playing with other children.

Searchers looked for the missing toddler all night until early this morning. Searchers were using infra-red technology in a very wooded area in smith county near highway 271 and FM 16.

Searchers who have been up all night are sad there wasn't a happy ending.

There will be more information on the investigation into Jake Kimbley death as we get it.

UPDATE: WINONA/SMITH COUNTY (KYTX) - The Alert Academy from Big Sandy has been called out.

They have a number of people on the ground. The sheriff's dept has also brought out ATVs and horses.

There are also still fire crews and EMS helicopters scouring the area for little Jake.

Sgt. Hughes with the Smith County Sheriff's Office says he last seen behind his house playing with other children.

He was wearing a red, blue and green striped shirt. He is believed to be barefoot somewhere in the woods.


 SMITH COUNTY (TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH) - The Smith County Sheriff's Office confirmed they are searching for a two-year old boy who went missing in the Winona area.

Multiple agencies, including fire departments, the sheriff's office and air support are searching for the toddler who went missing while playing hide-and-seek near Farm-to-Market Road 16 and State Highway 271, according to dispatchers.

The Sheriff's Office is in charge of the investigation, officials said. Scanner reports say the child is wearing a white and blue shirt with no shoes, and he is about 30 pounds. He was last seen in tall grass in his backyard by his brother, reports stated.
