Danny Jackson Recognized as Elementary Teacher of the Year

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

A local man was recognized with the highest honor the State of Texas can bestow upon an elementary school teacher on Friday.

Danny Jackson is a teacher at Flour Bluff Elementary, and was named Elementary Teacher of the Year. He has been employed by the district for the last four years, but has been teaching for 26 years.

Jackson said he made the decision to become a teacher when he was only eight years old, because his mother was also a teacher. He said a lot has changed since he first entered the classroom, namely advances in technology, but the thing that stays the same is the children.

"Kids still need you to love them," Jackson said. "They still need you to discipline them. They still need you to keep your promises. For me, that's pretty simple. Kids stay the same, and I've taught several ages."

Jackson wasn't the only one recognized for his achievements in the classroom this Friday. A Corpus Christi Independent School District educator was named Secondary Teacher of the Year for Region Two.
