CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Two local teachers received a special award Friday, recognizing their excellence in the classroom.

Libby Taylor Payne was named by the Education Service Center Region Two as Secondary Teacher of the Year for this part of Texas.

Payne, a career and technology teacher at Solomon Coles High School, has been with the Corpus Christi Independent School District for some 30 years. She says teaching always seemed like the right thing for her to do in life, and that the award is very humbling.

"It is just a fabulous feeling," Payne said. "It's an honor to represent the teachers that are in Region Two in the State of Texas."

Danny Jackson, a fourth-grade teacher at Flour Bluff Elementary, received the Elementary Teacher of the Year award for this region. The Education Service Center has been honoring outstanding teachers in this way since 1969.
