Lakeview Park to See Some Drought Relief

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

As a result of our ongoing drought in the Coastal Bend, it seems the popular Lakeview Park at Holly and Rodd Field is fast disappearing.

Recently, families have been complaining that the pond water is turning green and drying up. The pond is home to all kinds of birds, turtles, fish and at times alligators.

As you can see, the drought is turning the wildlife oasis into a mud puddle. People want to see something done before it's too late.

"I think it does need more water," said Lisa Nicholson, a worried local. "The birds need it. The turtles need it. So there is more water needed here. There are a lot of people who come here. I see them. It's just a nice place to come and have a little fun."

The pond, which is stocked by the Texas Parks and Wildlife with fish every now and then, is going to see some drought relief. Assistant City Manager Oscar Martinez said the Water Department has been instructed to get some fresh water to the pond. That should be happening over the next few days.

Water Director Gus Gonzalez said a crew will open up a water pipe so that it will flow into the pond. Enough will be allowed to fill the pond so that it can clean things up there.
