A Groves teen is headed to 180 days in jail and 10 years probation after driving drunk, injuring one young man and killing another.
Ever since April 25th of last year the Sawyer family has been mourning the loss of a son, brother and nephew.
"He was a really funny, nice, friendly, good hearted kid," said Sawyer's aunt, Sandi Kenney.
It was a Monday evening when officials say, then 17-year-old Tyler Ramirez was driving drunk and hit two 16-year-olds in a Groves neighborhood.
Matt English who was riding his bike was injured in the wreck. Jesse Sawyer who was on his skateboard at the time died on the way to the hospital.
And Monday Ramirez was sentenced and Sawyer's aunt, Sandi Kenney, thinks the judge made the right choice.
"I believe and my family believes that god can forgive," she said.
Judge Layne Walker sentenced Ramirez to 180 days in jail and 10 years of probation and because Ramirez did admit to his parole officer that he was drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana after the incident the judge is requiring weekly drug tests and that he wear an alcohol detecting bracelet.
After about 16 months of waiting for this day Kenney says the Sawyer family can now find some closure.
"All we want is for him to learn and to help teach others so this can be prevented from happening again," said Kenney.
Preventing another family from the pain of a lost loved one.
Tyler Ramirez has to pay $1,000 fine, wear a GPS bracelet and must complete 16 hours of community service a week.
If Ramirez violates any of the terms of his parole he could face at least 20 years in prison.
