Police have confirmed that the 50-year old man who drowned while surfing Tuesday near Packery Channel actually had a medical emergency in the surf, causing his death.
Rip currents were still strong Wednesday at Packery Channel. The high tides came in Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, catching some people off guard.
A driver had to be towed off the beach near the Newport Pass beach entrance. A few hundred feet away, a van was stuck in a quagmire of beach mud.
At the Zahn Road beach entrance, a pickup truck appeared to have been left by someone and was simply sinking down into the sand.
