CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
A semi truck snagged some power lines Thursday, leaving a neighborhood in the dark and causing a small house fire.
It was just about 2:30 p.m. when the truck hit the power lines on Chamberlain St., near Incarnate Word Academy. The lines fell on the garage of a nearby home, starting a small fire.
The family of that home was quickly evacuated, and no one was hurt. The driver stayed in his truck until American Electric Power crews arrived on scene to cut power to the lines.
"The power lines are required to be a certain height off ground," said Lt. Henry Mangum of the Corpus Christi Police Department. "We'll do a little investigating to see if lines were the right height, or if the power lines were sagging. When it's hot, poles lean, and sometimes lines sag."
Power to the school and surrounding areas were restored shortly.
