CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
Demolition on the old Stone Writing Center Building began Thursday morning, to make room for the further expansion of Del Mar College.
The Stone Writing Center Building was built in the mid-70s to serve as a women's dorm, and in 1989 it was repurposed as an English learning lab; but a recent study of the building found that it wouldn't be economical to renovate the building.
So to make room for expansion of the college's new music building, the Stone Writing Center is coming down. The writing lab has now been moved to the fourth floor of the college library.
The demolition process will continue into next week. The contractor doing the work has agreed to set aside a number of bricks for anyone interested in keeping one as a souvenir.
