Dry Soil, Heat Creates Foundation Problems for Homeowners

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

It is another offshoot of the stifling heat and oppressive drought we've been experiencing this summer; one we don't often think about: cracking foundation.

"We started seeing cracks in the home," homeowner Trisha Darbonne said. "Doors not fitting right, things like that."

"Our soils, as they shrink, they cause these foundations to fail," said Adrian Benavides, project manager of On the Level Foundation Repair. "That's why we are out doing a lot of houses right now."

A crew from On the Level Foundation Repair were at Darbonne's home Friday afternoon making repairs. The experts said that, without significant rain, the clay soil surrounding most homes begins to decrease, causing the foundation to shift.

You can always water your foundation to help prevent the cracking process, but the experts said a real hard rain may be the only cure to the foundation crunching.
