Firefighters Respond to Grass Fire at Hidden Yorktown Dump Site
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
Fire crews responded to a grass fire at a hidden dump site in the 1700 block of Yorktown, between Rodd Field and Mud Bridge, at around 1 p.m. Monday.
It took crews a couple of hours to put the flames out at the site, where mattresses, tires and all sorts of things were lying around. The debris and the addition of dry weather made the fire a difficult one to fight.
Another problem firefighters faced was the fact that there are not any fire hydrants close by, the nearest one being about a half-mile down the road. So crews had to drive the trucks back and forth to get water to the fire.
It is not clear at this point how it all started, but the good news is no one was hurt, and no homes were damaged.
Someone nearby spotted the fire and ran down the street to the fire station to report it. Investigators are trying to figure out who owns the property.
