Oak Park Trashed After Weekend Gathering

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

This Labor Day, people went to family parks to barbecue and enjoy the day with family and loved ones. Some got quite a surprise, especially at one park in particular.

Oak Park was trashed.

It appeared that someone had thrown a huge birthday party at the park over the weekend, and the debris from that event was everywhere. No City crews had shown up to clean the mess.

Neighbors said they weren't happy about the beer bottles and other items littering their park.

"It looks real bad, and it's always looked like that," said Tony Medina, an Oak Park resident. "We need the City to come and clean it. That's what we need. They need to do something about it."

Most City departments were shutdown for the holiday weekend, though a trash truck did drive past the park. Apparently, the vehicles are not equipped to handle park trash because the driver never stopped.

Medina said he has lived across the street from the park for over 50 years. He wishes those who use it would take better care of it, and he would like the City to come by and check on the park, and others around town, to make sure there are no more Labor Day surprises.
