City Code Enforcement Officers Target Illegal Signs

Posted: Updated:
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Code enforcement officers hit the streets Tuesday afternoon, cracking down on illegal signs causing an eyesore on our streets.

They were looking for anything; missing dog signs, garage sale signs, even political signs. The City code states that, if a sign is on a utility pole or one foot from the right of way, it is illegal. If you are caught, you could face a big fine.

"It compromises the integrity of the utility poles," Code Enforcement Officer Ed Salazar said."Number two, it's an eyesore. Basically, the citizens that have placed this stuff out here, what they do is they leave it there and it just really, really looks bad."

Code enforcement handed out several citations Tuesday, at $500 for each sign.
