Charges could be filed in fatal I-10 accident

A Department of Public Safety spokesperson says charges could be filed soon in connection with an accident that claimed the life of a Louisiana man on Interstate 10 in Vidor on Friday.

State Troopers in Orange County are in the final stages of investigating the 6-car accident that claimed the life of 43-year-old Thor Schmidt of Sulphur, Louisiana.

Trooper Stephanie Davis tells 12News HD investigators have collected evidence, taken statements from those directly involved, and have written search warrants for other evidence pertaining to the accident.

Davis says charges may be filed against 42-year-old Rafael Castro of Liberty, Texas.

Davis says the DPS hopes to submit a final report to the Orange County District Attorney's Office within the next few weeks.

Trooper Davis did not elaborate on the nature of the charges that may be filed.
