ARANSAS PASS (Kiii News) -
It was a trip back in time on Thursday for some elementary students in Aransas Pass; a trip to the medieval times.
It was knights versus Texas Rangers in an unusual jousting event, as part of the kickoff of a year-long civility program for the students at Marshall Elementary School.
Throughout the year, the students will learn different techniques to be better citizens. Thursday's event between the two historically inaccurate groups was meant to show students, no matter what custom or time your are in, being a good person never changes.
"It's designed to help kids learn from the ages of five to 12 why and how they should become noble services-oriented people," said Randall Parr, creator of the Early Act First Knight Program. "People who can look beyond their own world and see what kind of difference they can make in the communities they live in."
The Rotary Club of Aransas Pass is helping put on this year-long civility program.
