First responders receive blessing

Posted: Updated:
As the nation prepares to commemorate the 11th anniversary of 9/11 on Tuesday, Southeast Texas first responders paid tribute on Sunday.

With help from Bishop Curtis Guillory of the Catholic Diocese of Beaumont, first responders vehicles from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Beaumont Fire Department, Beaumont EMS and Beaumont Police Department were blessed.

This followed a special 9/11 blue mass for the safety of first responders.

"It's important to pray to God for our first responders and thank them for putting their lives on the line," Bishop Guillory said.

Bishop Guillory says the 9/11 Blue mass is an occasion for the catholic church to honor, affirm, and pray for the safety of all law enforcement officers, fire fighters and EMS personnel.
