Jefferson County Commissioners Monday reported progress toward a "guarantee" that could get American Airlines to return commuter service to the Jack Brooks Regional Airport.
The county and Mason Construction have promised $325,000 to go toward a minimum guaranteed commitment by the county.
But Jefferson County still needs a total of $1.5 million dollars as a revenue guarantee before American Airlines would consider renewing the service.
For two months transportation service at the Jack Brooks Regional Airport has come in the form of buses.
Pinnacle Airlines which provided air service to united airlines in Houston ended service after declaring bankruptcy in April.
But now the airport hopes to establish an agreement with American Airlines, a company that once had commercial flights fly in and out of Jack Brooks until 2001.
Jefferson County Judge Jeff Branick says if the revenues exceed the guarantee, the money would be returned to the entities that provided it.
