CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

One of the big stars from the hit ABC television show Dancing with the Stars was in Corpus Christi Monday night sporting his dancing shoes for a good cause.

J.R. Martinez, a past contestant on the hit show and a war vet who was severely burned in combat, went on to make a name for himself as a star on All My Children. He was in town Monday as the guest speaker at the Stars and Stripes Salute to Heroes event, a big fundraising event for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Center.

"We service about 88,000 deaf and hard of hearing from Victoria all the way down to Laredo," said Patricia Harman of the Dead and Hard of Hearing Center. "We have sign language classes, sign camp, case work and we provide interpreters for our college kids."

It is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the Center, which is also funded by grants.
