IWA Students Learn About Sept. 11 Attacks

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

At Incarnate Word Academy, students who weren't even born on Sept. 11, 2001, learned about that tragic day, and the acts of heroism and valor that made America stand united.

They also learned about the changes that followed in the way we now live our lives.

Security is now a vital part of our way of life; a lesson in American history, and how one act of terrorism forever changed the way we live in the United States.

"We learned a couple of weeks ago the three main reasons for conflict," said Trisha Osborne-Kay, a sixth-grade geography teacher at IWA. "Land disputes, politics and what's the last one? Religion. Remember? We learned that a couple of weeks ago and we focus on that, and my lecture about it was how those three things had a lot to do with what happened on September 11."

Osborne-Kay said she teaches her students that part of the reason the tragic event happened was because those behind it didn't understand Americans.
