Sunken Boat in Canal Behind North Padre Island Subdivision

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

In the Padre Isles subdivision on North Padre Island, the talk along one neighborhood canal centers on a 28-foot boat that is really "in" the water.

The canal runs behind Salt Cay Court. The Texas General Land Office was called out to the scene on Monday, and the owner of the sunken pleasure craft told state investigators that he is not sure why it went down, but that efforts are underway to get it out of the canal.

"Well, the owner, I've been in contact with him the last several days and he's trying to obtain some very large pumps to pump out the water, and hopefully get it re-floated," said Al Oswalt of the General Land Office. "We should have it re-floated by the end of the day."

A small amount of motor oil leaked from the boat. Other than that, no environmental problems were discovered.
