Hundreds of lawyers and doctors gathered on Wednesday to celebrate the once controversial tort reform proposal known as Proposition 12, which is nor a nine-year old state law.
"I have not hesitated in my work at Fox, sometimes to my peril, to criticize Republican administrations as well as Democrats when, in my opinion, they are not being faithful to the constitution," said Judge Andrew Napolitano, a Fox News judicial analyst.
Napolitano was the guest speaker at the event, put on by the Bay Area Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse. Leaders of the group said Prop 12 has helped to reduce health care lawsuit abuse in Texas since 2003.
"Doctors are now coming to our community willing to serve here," said Garry Bradford of the Bay Area Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse. "We've seen a reduction in our medical costs to our community and our customers, so I think it has progressed very very well."
Bradford said the law has dramatically cut the number of frivolous lawsuits, and that it continues to do that.
