CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Local non-profits received aid on Thursday, thanks to the annual Coastal Bend Community Foundation.

The Foundation presented a total of $500,000 in checks to 91 deserving non-profits in the Coastal Bend. The local food bank received $7,500 to feed families in need.

"We are very happy for our agencies," said Bea Hanson, executive director of the Food Bank of Corpus Christi. "This fund will help those agencies to work with the Food Bank so we can reach more people in need this time of year."

"We are one of the few foundation funders that can support all areas of the community, so we award to a variety," said Karen Selim, of the Coastal bend Community Foundation. "That makes us unique. A lot of foundations are only for children, elderly, arts; we can do everything, and what we try to do is spread our money to the most effective organizations."

The local Good Samaritan Rescue Mission also received a sizeable donation from the Foundation. They were given a check for about $10,000.

The Foundation has been practicing for 30 years. The agency application process begins annually in the Spring.
