CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
Though she may be retiring from the State Board of Education after nearly 30 years, Mary Helen Berlanga said she will continue to be a strong voice for education.
"I will continue to be an advocate for children, and for educators and parents," Berlanga said.
Berlanga was honored as a special guest at Thursday's fundraising luncheon put on by the Tuloso-Midway Education Foundation at the Omni Bayfront Hotel. She will attend her last board meeting in November, and officially step down at the end of December.
She said she will continue to practice law here in Corpus Christi while working with local educators as well.
