CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Corpus Christi Medical Center is helping the city prepare for flu season. Starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, both Bay Area and Doctor's Regional hospitals will host a drive-through flu shot clinic.

Each location will have 250 free vaccines for people 18 and over, and you won't even need to leave the comfort of your vehicle. Nurses will give you the shot right through your window.

Doctors say it's important for everyone to take proper flu precautions as soon as possible.

"Now is the time to get it," Infection Preventionist Annette Enrriques said. "It takes about two weeks for the vaccine to become effective, and everyone should be vaccinated. Everyone from six-months old to 99."

Officials say the flu kills thousands of people every year. Those with chronic conditions and pregnant women are most at risk for contracting the illness. As always, doctors say to prevent the spread of the flu, always stay home for 24 hours after running a fever.
