Mom with stick chases burglar, police make arrest

Port Arthur police have a man in custody they say attempted a daytime burglary on Saturday.

Officers say the man tried to break into a house in the 3500 block of 9th Avenue shortly after 1 p.m. Police say the homeowner, who is a mother of three children, saw the man climbing over the back fence.

Officers say she picked up a stick and chased the burglar away. She then called police.

Police say a 51-year-old man who matched the description of the burglar was found a few blocks away. He was identified by homeowner and arrested for criminal trespassing.

The man's name was withheld pending his arraignment.
