There has been a fish kill at one of the city's neighborhood parks near Rodd Field and Holly Road.
Nearby residents said the pond at Lakeview Park had at least a hundred dead fish floating along its shoreline. They said they began noticing the problem over the weekend.
It was about ten days ago when City crews filled the pond using a city fire hydrant. Before that, they said it was nearly dry. There were concerns that chlorine from the city water could have caused the fish kill.
"Certainly chlorine is not conducive to fish life," said Dr. Larry McKinney of the Harte Institute. "I don't know how much water was in the pond, and how much chlorine might have been in there. That's something you'd have to do water tests on. It would be too late to do it now because the chlorine would have dissipated by now."
Over the years, the state has taken the responsibility for stocking this pond with fish.
