She may just be in Elementary School, but that hasn't stopped one young local artist from having her work displayed on quite a large canvas.
Laura Holloway of Smith Elementary was chosen from over 200 other entries to have her mural displayed outside Bay Area Hospital. Third, fourth and fifth-grade students from Smith Elementary all participated in the contest, which involved creating a picture of the heart and family.
"I feel very proud of myself, and I'd like to thank everyone that picked mine to win," Holloway said. "And I'd like to say hi to all my friends and family and teachers."
"One of our dreams is to be build that community in school, and this is the perfect example," said Gail Tatum, principal of Smith Elementary. "We have this young artist showing amazing talent, and we get to have it right here near our school. We get to see it everyday, and the kids are out on the playground everyday, they can see it and they can see dreams really do come true. It's beautiful."
You can see Laura's work for yourself. It is placed on the northwest exterior of the hospital.
