A shoplifter turned violent on Wednesday after allegedly attacking a security guard at La Palmera Mall as she tried to flee the scene.
The incident took place around 2:45 p.m. at JCPenney. The woman allegedly tried to get away with jewelry when she was confronted by a security guard. She made a run for it, and when she was apprehended, she somehow brandished a box cutter and attacked the guard.
"He suffered some pretty good lacerations to his hand, and he will be going to the hospital to get stitched up," said Lt. Tim Brown of the Corpus Christi Police Department. "Just some simple shoplifting that went completely bad."
The woman is now facing an aggravated robbery charge. Meanwhile, police said the suspect did have an accomplice who got away with a number of items. They are still looking for that suspect.
