CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Corpus Christi Police Chief Floyd Simpson promoted Lieutenant Russell Sherman to captain at a ceremony Friday morning.

Sherman joined the Corpus Christi Police Department in 1991, and was assigned to the patrol division until 2007, where he was promoted to lieutenant. Now, he will be in charge and oversee all CCPD field operations.

Captain Sherman said, while he was a police officer, he learned that everyone in your life has something to offer you.

"Do as much as you can and learn as much as you can, and don't forget that everyone has something to offer to you," Sherman said. "You can learn from almost everybody and that would be a value to you."

Sherman also served in the U.S. Army before joining the CCPD.
