JIM WELLS COUNTY (Kiii News) -

It is a milestone day for the Jim Wells County Courthouse as it celebrates the big 100.

The historic building turned 100 years old on Friday. It was back in 1912 when it first opened its doors in Alice. Back then, they held a goat-roping contest and baseball game to mark the occasion.

This Friday it was a country breakfast for county employees and a good old trail ride to give citizens that Old West feel that was around when the courthouse first opened.

"We want to remember the people that actually started the county, that had the foresight to build the courthouse back in 1912 to set the cornerstone," said Jim Wells County Judge Arnold Saenz. "Our county has a very diverse history."

Of course, there was also a mariachi band on hand to help ring in the celebration in style.
