Two people are facing drug charges after Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputies say they found two Kilos (around 4 and a half pounds) of cocaine inside the pair's car.
Just after 4 a.m. on Friday, September 21, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office stopped a car after deputies say the driver committed a traffic violation. This was near the 846 Mile Marker on Interstate 10.
Deputies say both people inside the car, identified as Stephanie Ortiz, 23, of Houston, and James Brown, 44, of New Orleans, began acting nervous.
The deputy asked if he could search the car. Once he got permission to search, the deputy says he found 2 Kilos of cocaine in the passenger area of the car.
Ortiz and Brown were arrested and both have been charged with possession of a controlled substance. Bond has been set at $20,000 each.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office says the narcotics have a street value of approximately $140,000.
