Local Food Bank Helps Seniors at Low-Income Housing Complex

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

September is Hunger Awareness Month, and on Tuesday, some local community leaders helped celebrate.

Several local dignitaries and elected officials were on hand Tuesday morning as members of the Food Bank of Corpus Christi met at the Sea Breeze Apartments to hand out food to people at the low-income housing complex. The Food Bank was out showing off their brand new mobile pantry vehicle.

"You know, it's very important because we depend on the support from the community, from the leaders in the community," said Bea Hanson, executive director of the Food Bank. "And when they come and they see actually what is happening, and how the food is distributed, and they see the faces of the people who receive this food and how grateful they are, that makes a difference. It's a blessing for them and the people that receive the food."

A total of 114 seniors received food Tuesday morning. The Food Bank is currently asking the public for nonperishable food donations.
