City of Alice Ready for Further Development

ALICE (Kiii News) -

The City of Alice is open for business. That is the message community leaders want business leaders to hear loud and clear.

They point to one new truck stop currently being built as the latest example of the city's business-friendly atmosphere. That truck stop is a $3.5 million project, and city leaders said it shows that business leaders feel confident investing in Alice.

City and County leaders met Tuesday at City Hall to discuss the City's vision for the future. Congressman Ruben Hinojosa sat in on the meeting. City leaders call Hinojosa a big player in many of the City's projects.

After the meeting, it was off to Tex Best Travel Center. The 7100-square foot building sits on three acres, and is being built at the corner of Highway 44 and 281. That's right next to a busy Whataburger, and just a few hundred yards south of where the City's 35-acre Multi Use Complex is set to be built.

With that complex in the works, and all the wealth being created by the Eagle Ford Shale, city leaders are excited for the future.

"Carlos is a perfect example of that, investing over $3 million in this facility, bringing 25-30 full-time jobs," said Ray De Los Santos, Jr., Alice City Manager. "That's just a couple of acres that's being developed. We're talking about 400-500 acres and we're talking about a big city facility in the middle of all of that."

"We're certainly excited about being here," said Carlos Garza of La Lomita Inc. "We think it's a great corner and it's going to be a great facility and there's a lot of great things that are going to happen on this side of Alice."

Garza said the company is hoping to open the travel center on Oct. 22, but they say they are ahead of schedule and may have a soft opening on Oct. 15 or 16.

The Multi Use Complex that will be built close by will have a hotel and training center, an indoor pool, outdoor pool, and an amphitheater.
