BEE COUNTY (Kiii News) -

A well known rancher in Bee County was found dead Wednesday morning.

According to police, 54-year old Brien Hickman was found shot to death on his ranch in the eastern part of Bee County. Investigators believe he sustained a single gunshot wound to the head.

Many people in Bee County know the Hickman family. Family members gathered at the ranch Wednesday afternoon, and declined to comment about the situation, but folks in the community knew him very well.

"Real nice person. I know about him," Bee County resident Art Trevino said. "If we had a problem, he would answer it."

Investigators with the Bee County Sheriff's Office, Texas Rangers and a special ranger with the Texas Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association are actively investigating Hickman's death as a homicide.

The Bee County Sheriff's Office declined to comment as well, but did ask that anyone with information please call the Coastal Bend Crimestoppers at 361-362-0206.
