Jasper County mom arrested after child dies of 'severe head trauma'

A Jasper County mother is in jail after doctors say her 19-month old daughter died from injuries that could only be from child abuse.

Jasper County Sheriff Mitch Newman says the sheriff's office received a call on Tuesday from Texas Children's Hospital in Houston. Doctors informed his office they were treating a baby with severe head trauma. On Wednesday, doctors notified the Sheriff that the baby had died and said the injuries were the result of child abuse.

Following an investigation, Jasper County deputies arrested the child's mother, identified as Angel Bryan, 40, of Jasper County.

Bryan has been charged with capital murder of a child under the age of 6.

Jasper County Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace Judge Ronny Billingsley denied Bryan bond.
