STARS Benefit Thursday Night at American Bank Center

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

The 2012 STARS Benefit at the American Bank Center is just a few hours away, and if you do not have your tickets for the big concert, there is still time.

Blake Shelton will be headlining the event Thursday evening at the American Bank Center. Representatives with the South Texas Academic Rising Scholar event are hoping to raise about a half-million dollars to send some well-deserving kids to college.

"Basically anyone who lives in South Texas who has college hours and financial need is important to us," said Tony LaMantia, chairman of the STARS organization. "You don't have to be valedictorian, salutatorian. What we want is students who want to continue their education."

STARS will begin taking applications in January of 2013. Interested students can go to their Web site and submit an application at www.southtexasstars.org.
