Body parts found in Port Arthur landfill

Posted: Updated:

Port Arthur police are investigating the discovery of an estimated 15 human body parts found inside the city landfill on Highway 73.

Port Arthur Police Major Raymond Clark tells 12News HD the body parts "obviously" came from a medical facility.  Clark says officers are investigating from which facility they came. He says any bio waste are legally required to be incinerated or buried through internment.

According to a press release issued by the Port Arthur Police Department, the body parts were a result of "legitimate medical procedures." Police say the parts consisted mostly of feet and legs.

Authorities say they do not believe any foul play was involved with regards to the persons whom the human body parts originated.

Clark says he did not know what types of body parts were found or how long they had been there.
