Dozens of cats and dogs, along with their owners, went to the All Saints First Episcopal Church Sunday morning for the 50th annual Blessing of the Animals and Pets.
Four-legged loved ones received blessings and received certificates saying they are "instruments of God's love." The blessings are in honor of St. Francis of Assisi's, who was an Italian Catholic friar.
It was an outdoor service honoring man's best friend, plus God's smaller creatures.
"Because when I first got her for my birthday, she didn't try to pinch me like all the other crabs," said Carmen Shaver, who took her pets to be blessed.
Several pet shelters including PALS were on hand to hand out pet food and advice on caring for animals.
