Services were held at 10 a.m. Monday at Most Precious Blood, for 13-year old Jonathan Chapa Flores, who was killed in an accident Thursday evening on Morgan and Santa Fe.
Flores' mother, Erica Moya, said Jonathan was very stubborn, but very loving, outgoing, independent and smart. She had a message for all parents, pleading that they make sure their children always buckle up.
The accident happened just before 6 p.m. Thursday, at the intersection of Morgan and Santa Fe.
Police said that the driver of a Honda ran a red light and was t-boned when crossing the intersection. The impact sent the car into another vehicle that was sitting at the light. Flores was ejected from the Honda, and pronounced dead at the scene.
Moya said her boyfriend was driving the Honda when the accident happened, and that the light was not red, but was yellow when they crossed the intersection.
An account has been set up at the Coastal Community and Teachers Credit Union for people to donate to help the family cover the funeral costs. It is under the name Jonathan Chapa Flores.
