Troopers issue update on Kountze bus accident

Posted: Updated:

The Department of Public Safety Thursday morning said a driver's medical condition may have contributed to an accident involving a school bus on Wednesday.

The driver of a Dodge pickup truck, identified as Sandra West, was taken to the hospital in critical condition following a 5-vehcile accident Wednesday.  Four students and the driver of a bus that was involved in the accident were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.  West was taken to the hospital by medical helicopter.

The accident happened just before 4 p.m. at the intersection of FM 326 and Hargroves Lane in Hardin County.

Trooper Stephanie Davis with the Texas Department of Public Safety tells 12 News HD there were 11 kids total on the bus. Troopers say the kids who were taken to the hospital had only minor injuries.

Trooper Davis said investigators believe West had a medical condition which may have contributed to the accident.  Davis did not specify the nature of the medical condition.

No injuries were reported in the other 3 vehicles involved.
