Some of the country's foremost authorities in the world of art and history are in town this week for a conference.
The Mountain Plains Museum Association is holding their annual fall conference at the Omni Bayfront Hotel. The event brings over 300 professionals in the museum industry, located in states such as Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas, just to name a few. They get together to talk shop and network.
The event kicked off Wednesday with a keynote address by Mayor Joe Adame. Also in attendance was world-renowned artist and local citizen Kent Ullberg, who spoke about the inspiration the Coastal Bend brings him.
"This part of the country, the reason I love it so much is because it has the most beautiful marine environment," Ullberg said. "We live on Padre Island, and it's a constant inspiration for me, and I want to convey that beauty and preciousness of nature to people."
The conference runs through Friday.
