Tuloso-Midway Students Get Lesson from Martial Arts Instructor

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

Third graders at Tuloso-Midway Primary School got a lesson in martial arts, as well as a lesson in life, on Thursday.

A master in taekwondo paid the school a visit to teach the children verbal defense. It was all part of an anti-bullying campaign to teach kids nonviolent conflict resolution, and how to de-escalate situations.

"We feel like, if we can teach kids respect, they don't become bullies," Principal David Calk said. "He also teaches confidence. If we teach our children confidence, they don't become victims."

The martial arts instructor is actually a retired educator. He said he now devotes all of his free time to the bully prevention campaign because he thinks confidence is a tool the kids will need all their lives.
